Protect your TV During your Move

couple moving tvSomething horrible that sometimes happens when moving is finding out your TV was shattered. At A-1 Freeman Moving Group, we know it’s no fun to be at your new home with a broken TV. We want to do everything we can to make your move as stress-free as it can be here in Austin, whether you are moving somewhere locally or long distance. To help you out we put together this list of tips and tricks for you need to pack up your TV.

In order to move your television, you need a box that’s appropriate for moving your television. The perfect thing to use is the box that your TV first came in – if you still have that. If not,, you can get packaging designed for moving flat-screen TVs from either a hardware store or a moving supply store. You should find a box that is just somewhat bigger than the TV, but not by a lot; you don’t want the TV to shift around when it’s inside. Transporting expensive and delicate items requires packing and preparation knowledge, not simply big moving trucks or specialized equipment. At A-1 Freeman Moving Group our team of experienced movers is excited to help you with your move, even if it’s just packing up your television.

Before unplugging everything, a great thing to do is snap a few pictures behind your television with the cords plugged in. This will make it a lot easier when the time comes to reinstall everything. Then, you can start getting your TV ready to pack. Unplug it and take out the power cord, then any other connecting wire. Place all of them inside a bag together and keep it with the TV. Sometimes there is a base you have to take off of the television in order to pack it. If this is the case, put all screws and other parts into a small bag and keep it with the TV so everything stays together.

Once you’re finished, you can start to pack it up. No matter if you are going far from Austin or you are simply moving locally, it’s necessary to see that your television is completely covered. Get foam pieces to go over the TV screen, there will be some in your kit if you got one, or in the box that your TV came in originally if you are using that. The foam not only keeps the screen from being scratched, but it also will stop your television from bumping around in the box during your move. Secure the foam pieces by using mover’s wrap or tape. Then use blankets or sheets to cover your entire television and prevent it from being scratched.

When your TV is all covered up it’s finally time to get it in the box! Keep the television upright and secure it by filling in spaces and gaps with more sheets and blankets. This keeps the TV from shifting around in the box during the move.

loading boxes into truck Finally, get the box in the truck, or let the movers do it for you. Set the box upright and try to put it agaist other flat, secure furniture, including your mattress, dresser, or a bookshelf. Remember to put important cables close to the TV, whether they’re in a bag taped to the side or in another box.

Then you’re all ready to go! Hopefully you have a moving company here in Austin to help you out, getting you across the country or your town quickly and safely, with all of your stuff intact. If not, A-1 Freeman Moving Group has got you covered! We can move you fast and efficiently, and we’ll make sure your TV is safe and sound so you have it all up and running when the big game comes around.

Best. Move. Ever!
Very pleased with the overall respect and care the men gave to my possessions. Even mailing me very quickly the only thing lost in transit. Would recommend to anyone needing a long distant move.
